You caught in the middle of some natural devastation, e.g. hurricane, earthquake. Does it make sense to pray?

I realize that "act of God" does not mean God caused "natural" disasters although I believe people used to use disasters as evidence of the existence of an angry God. If He is all-powerful and all-knowing, then He must know before the fact who will die, who will live. If someone prays to be saved, are they hoping to change the outcome of the event He already knows. For that matter, does prayer make sense at all? God already knows everything, so whether you pray or not, He knows how you feel. It seems more live groveling; the attitude of a small child toward a bully whom he hopes will decide to leave him alone
